MANUAL HANDLING ASSESSMENTS & TRAINING
We can inspect your premises annually to identify manual handling risks and undertake a manual handling risk assessment and advise you on how to minimise risk.
According to the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (MHOR), manual handling is defined as:
‘…any transporting or supporting of a load (including the lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving thereof) by hand or bodily force’
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations place a duty on every employer to reduce the potential injury from manual handling operations, so it is worth noting that back problems account for a third of worker absence in the UK, so training your staff to handle objects and people safely can reduce the risk of injury to staff, as well as have a positive effect on your company’s costs in the long term.
Pure Health & Safety can undertake assessments and provide courses tailored to suit the needs of your employees.
Assessment
Pure Health & Safety use the ‘HSE MAC’ tool (HSE manual handling assessment chart) developed to help users identify high-risk workplace manual handling activities, to assess any risks posed by lifting, carrying and team manual handling activities etc.
‘HSE MAC’ is designed to help you understand, interpret and categorise the level of risk of the various known risk factors associated with manual handling activities and incorporates a numerical and a colour-coding score system to highlight high-risk manual handling tasks.
Training
The legal framework for introducing manual handling controls and the duties under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 of both the employer and the employee are included so that candidates understand how they can contribute to a manual handling programme in the workplace.
Pure Health & Safety can train your staff to be best prepared for general workplace hazards and to better understand the controls associated with manual handling of general articles such as furniture, boxes, sacks and work equipment.
The training includes highlighting typical injuries and health problems that can arise from incorrect manual handling, plus the hazards and risks of a variety of workplace scenarios.
Please note that this training course does not include people moving skills, although it does provide a solid foundation of the principles required for additional specialist training.
